History of Asbestos Use
Celotex Corporation was founded in Chicago, Illinois the early 1920’s and manufactured roofing and insulation. The company was owned by Philip Carey Corporation which manufactured asbestos-containing products. The company expanded quickly and acquired Carey Canada in 1921, a group that initially mined, milled, and processed asbestos fibers.

In 1925, Celotex created another subsidiary titled Celotex Company of Great Britain. This company was also known for distributing products such as siding with asbestos. Almost forty years later, Celotex went public after Walter Industries Inc. acquired it. Celotex ceased the use of asbestos in the middle of the 1980s.
